2 cops killed at Bridgewater College
A shooting on the Bridgewater College campus killed two officers and charged one with capital murder. Near Memorial
Hall, Campus Police Officer John Painter and Campus Safety Officer J.J. Jefferson responded to a report of a
suspicious man on campus. The man then opened fire, shooting Painter and Jefferson, according to
Virginia State Police. After the 911 call, the suspect fled. So students should stay put and text their loved ones that they
are fine. My friend ran up to me and said, ‘Get inside.' Shooter on campus!' So my friend and I ran inside,” said
Kai Bowman, a fourth-year student. A man matching the suspect's description was found on Riverside Drive, off
campus, near Bridgewater. The suspect, Alexander Wyatt Campbell, 27, of Ashland, waded into the river to an
island. That's where cops arrested him. Bridgewater College said a suspect was arrested. Bridgewater College
